LED

LED-Light Emitting Diode Treatments or PDT-Photodynamic Therapy is one of the best things to ever happen to the beauty therapy industry to date and is a painless, relaxing, easy to do, safe and a non-invasive skin-care treatment that has multiple benefits on the skin. Particularly and commonly used for stimulating collagen and treating mild to moderate acne. Your clients will find it better than most facial treatments, where they can see and feel better and more results, not just the usual pampering skin care treatment or a typical facial. It converts the light energy into cell energy without any thermal heat like a laser or IPL would.

LED treatments work by using an array of bright LED (light-emitting diodes), originally developed by N.A.S.A it has been around for a number of years. N.A.S.A. experimented with LED light to accelerate wound healing and tissue growth as well as helping with fatigue with astronauts with great success and the technology has been transferred to the aesthetics industry initially through surgeons looking for methods to speed up the wound healing process in post skin cancer legion removal that sends low-level light energy into the deeper layers of the skin.

LED light photon therapy treatments are just simply called LED or light therapy, or by the name of the manufacturer, such as Dermawave or Revitalight. Professional LED treatments are given at clinics and day spa's, or those with a serious focus on skin care health. LED light therapy treatments are also being found more frequently now at resort spas, which are emphasising more results-oriented skin care treatments.

The most commonly used colours and what they do-

-The RED light penetrates the skin and triggers the body to make collagen and elastin as well as new capillaries. The result of more collagen, elastin and dermal extra-cellular matrix substance is firmer, younger looking skin whilst the new capillaries offer increased circulation in turn increasing wound healing and scar tissue reduction benefits. This is particularly beneficial for people over the age of 25 as the body then gradually loses its ability to make youthful collagen and so the aging process begins. It stimulates cellular activity, including the fibroblasts that produce collagen, which gives young skin its plump look. This helps minimise fine lines and wrinkles, treat sun-damage and stretch marks, and reduce redness after more aggressive IPL, laser treatments or needling treatments. The red light can penetrate into a deep level of the skin to increase micro-circulation with the photo-chemical activity. It stimulates the metabolism to accelerate the cells to refresh and repair. Red light irradiation could effectively increase collagen activity, speeding up the elimination of waste matter or dead cells from the tissue to stimulate fibroblast growth. Therefore, the red light can repair impaired skin, smooth fine wrinkles and increase skin flexibility.

-The BLUE light acts on the sebaceous oil glands in the surface of the skin helping to excite porphyrins, which are compounds inside acne bacteria. The light has the ability to activate the porphyrins to kill the bacteria from the inside out. It is therefore a very effective acne treatment. It works by killing bacterium acne, this bacteria lives below the surface of the skin and is responsible for acne. When the blue wavelengths are applied, the light can inhibit inflammation, kill acne bacillus so as to eliminate acne. It helps bacterium acne and can permeate into cortes below 0.25mm, destroys the living environment of bacillus which in turn relieves inflammation. It can help remove acne from the skin and also helps with scarring. The blue light is very calming and soothing on the skin. It is also highly effective when part of a series - usually 6-8 treatments over two weeks, followed by a 1-4 maintenance treatment's every month. LED treatments last about fifteen to thirty minutes, and can be a stand-alone treatment or part of a facial or an add on.

-The YELLOW light can stimulate and repair the lymphatic and nervous system. It strengthens the functions of the muscle and the immunologic system and relieves sensitive skins. The yellow light can help reduce brown spots and pigmentation. In combination with green and the red light, it can eliminate yellowing skin, wrinkles and fine lines, premature ageing and acne-prone skin. It can help accelerate the blood circulation function in the skin, increases lymphatic circulation while promoting the activation of skin tissue and improves oily regulation.

-The GREEN light is effective in the reduction of melanin cells, decreases pigment formation, adjustment of the skin gland functions and a reduction of the oil gland excitation. With wavelength at approximately 500nm depending on the machine it can calm, sooth, prevent allergy and desensitisation. The green light can help to balance out pigmentation while slightly whitening the skin as does the yellow light.

LED is an effective treatment for anti-aging as well as common conditions such as acne, rosacea and dilated capillaries. So by choosing specific wavelengths (colours) of the light spectrum you can help with a range of skin concerns that include:
